HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) The Kansas State Fair kicks off Friday, and organizers have released a new app to help you get around.
The app has all the event times and places listed. So before you get to the fair, you can have your family's day planned. The app also has a map feature so if your event is across the fairgrounds from your second event, the app will give you walking directions.
"We are not printing daily schedules this year. We are converting people to digital media and we'll have a few people that don't like that, but for the most part I think it's going to work out really well," said Robin Jennison, Kansas State Fair.
The app will also send real-time notifications -- such as when the next calf at the birthing center is being born.
"People go over there and they don't want to hang around. A lot of times they've got little kids, so they go out on the fairgrounds, come back and they may miss a birth or some chickens hatching. So we think that's going to be a great addition," said Jennison.
For those who don't have a smartphone or if your phone dies, the fair will have a schedule listed on signs around the Midway.
