KINSLEY, Kan. (KWCH) The Kinsley-Offerle school district is mourning the loss of its boys' basketball coach.

USD 347 said Mike Jones died unexpectedly Thursday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Jones was driving in Kinsley when his car left the roadway for unknown reasons and went through three private yards. The 2007 Cadillac DTS crossed over the public sidewalk, struck a wooden fence nd finally, a large tree.

The Kinsley High School coach died in the crash.

The school district said counselors were available to support students and staff on Friday. Activities scheduled for the district's "Midwinter" event would continue as planned.

It said Jones would be honored with a moment of silence at the pep assembly, where he would have given his speech and another moment of silence before the Varsity boys' game tonight. Students are also planning a "RED OUT" at the game.

"Coach Jones was a kind and caring man that loved supporting kids here at USD 347. He will be missed dearly by us and the Kinsley community," said the district on it's Facebook page.

Funeral arrangements for Jones are being handled by McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley.
