Late-night tornado in Butler County caps another active day for KS storms

BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. As Tuesday evening rolled into late Tuesday night, the primary concern throughout central and south-central Kansas was the widespread heavy rain and the flooding that followed.

The slight risk for an isolated tornado lingered and that threat brought a tornado warning to Butler County a little after 11 p.m.

Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Wichita confirmed a brief tornado touchdown in a rural part of the county about five miles southeast of Augusta.

The NWS says the tornado touched down about 11:19 p.m. and moved northeast for about three minutes, causing minor damage to trees.
