Liberal, Kan. school district employee arrested on drug-related charges

TEXAS COUNTY, Okla. A woman listed as a reading instructor in the Liberal, Kan. school district faces several drug-related charges.

An affidavit from Texas County, Oklahoma shows 37-year-old Melissa Lynn Abla, faces six counts including aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine within 2,000 feet of a school or park, conspiracy to commit aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine within 2,000 feet of a school or park, possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a tax stamp, maintaining place for keeping / selling a controlled substance, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Abla's address is listed in Tyrone, Okla. Tyrone is about 24 miles southwest of Liberal. Counts against Abla say her crimes happened between Nov. 17 and Nov. 20. The Texas County, Okla. District Court says crimes happened near the public school in Tyrone and not in Liberal.

The affidavit released Tuesday shows bail for Abla was set at $250,000.
The Liberal school district would not comment about Abla's employment status with USD 480.
