High school students in Maize build airplane

MAIZE, Kan. (KWCH) Students from Maize and Maize South high schools are working with Airbus, Wichita State University and a Texas business to build a two-seater airplane that will take flight in May 2018.

"What I've seen the past few days has been phenomenal, they've worked together, they've worked within groups, they've worked between groups, along the lines of I can't find this piece, have you seen something like this, they've all done their job, and I have been beyond my expectation of what I've seen so far," says Mike Tinich.

Students at Maize South already received the plane kit and have started working on it.

Airbus provided $80,000 to help buy the kit.

The project will eventually move to the maize career academy at maize high.
