MAIZE, Kan. (KWCH) A Maize teacher is receiving national recognition for her work in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science.
Heidi Janelle Albin is the recipient of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). It's the nation's highest honor for teachers in the field.
"The award places me in a position to serve the profession and step up in any way I can to help others. I also see this award as a reflection not of myself, but of my school and fellow staff members," said the high school science teacher.
Albin will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation; a certificate signed by the President; and a trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate their accomplishments. There she will participate in professional development activities and network with fellow STEM educators from across the nation.
"Heidi Janelle Albin represents the most outstanding teachers America has to offer and serves as both a model and an inspiration to students and fellow teachers," said the PAEMST team in a release.
