Maize teacher receives national award

MAIZE, Kan. (KWCH) A Maize teacher is also making us Kansas Proud.

Crystal May was recognized as one of five recipients of the National Education Association Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence.

She teaches 4th grade at Pray-Woodman Elementary School.

May was also one of eight 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year finalists.

"I'm very appreciative. I'm very honored. I'm very humbled at being recognized for doing something that I just love to do. It's not often that you find a career path that you're just excited to go to work every single day," said May.

She will be recognized in February at a gala event in Washington, D.C.
