Blake Smith, a motion picture industry veteran and Tulsa Drive-In theatre owner, agreed to take over the shuttered business on Friday.
Smith says he has a lot of work to do before he actually re-opens the drive-in.
Several efforts have been made to save the drive-in once its closing was announced in early October. According to the "Starlite Drive-in Pledge Page" on Facebook, $50,000 has been pledged to keep the landmark open. The page says its goal is $200,000 -- the cost of two new digital projectors.
Smith says he definitely wants to have projectors that are as good as what was at the drive-in under the previous owner. He says he's still trying to come up with a way to give back to those who pledged money.
Smith says his Tulsa drive-in will open at the end of February. He says it could be the end of March before Starlite re-opens.
