WICHITA, Kan. It's fitting that it happened near a south central Kansas casino.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority says it learned quickly about malfunctioning toll machine that spat out coins instead of accepting money Tuesday morning near Mulvane and the Kansas Star Casino. The KTA says it mistakenly spread that information with an accidental text alert to its public subscribers.
KTA spokeswoman Rachel Bell says the agency doesn't know how many people used the machine during the malfunction Tuesday morning, but the impact was likely minimal since, she says, Mulvane is a low-volume plaza. Bell says they almost immediately knew about an issue with the machine, and a tech headed toward Mulvane to fix it.
