Suspect in custody in deadly Goodland shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued in connection with a shooting that left one man dead in Goodland last month.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says a warrant for involuntary manslaughter was served to 21-year-old Jesus M. Soto on Friday. He's accused in the death of 21-year-old Zachary Chavez on Dec. 20.
Soto was already in police custody at the Sherman County Jail on a warrant unrelated to the incident.
The KBI says Soto and Chavez were friends.
The Sherman County Attorney is expected to prosecute the case.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a deadly shooting near Goodland.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a shooting at 5490 County Road 23.
Sheriff's deputies arrived to find 21-year-old Zachary Chavez, of Tribune, suffering from a gunshot wound.
EMS transported Chavez to the Goodland Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 2 a.m.
Around 3:30 a.m., the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance.
A person of interest was identified and taken into police custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
