Man killed in officer-involved near Legends Shopping complex in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KWCH) One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Kansas City, near the Legends Shopping complex.

Police said earlier Monday morning a man ran into the Country Inn and Suites at Village West on State Ave, west of the Kansas Speedway, and said he had killed his wife. Hotel staff said the man also indicated that he was heavily armed, although he was not armed at the time.

They said the man ran out of the hotel and drove away in a red Mazarati, blowing through several stop signs, heading toward the Legend Shopping complex.

At that time, the hotel staff called 911.

Police arrived and met up with the man where they say the man reached into his car, raised a weapon and fired at police. Kansas City, Kan. police officers fired back, striking and killing the man.

Deputies from the Wyandotte Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol were also on the scene.

Police say the suspect did have a troubled past. As of right now, the claim that the had killed his wife has not been verified.

The Legends Shopping Complex is no longer on lockdown, but police say the Village West and State Avenue (the location of the shooting) will remain closed for hours.
