WICHITA, Kan. Update: May 4
Wichita's Central library will close Sunday for good.
According to city officials, staff need to close the location to finish moving everything to the new library along the river.
Wichita's new Advanced Learning Library opens June 16.
The City of Wichita says its Central Library is closing for good on May 6 as a new library home prepares to open. The Central Library's closure is "part of a series of transitions related to the relocation to the new Advanced Learning Library (at) 711 West 2nd Street," the city says.
The city says there will be some disruption of services during the library's move, but it's working to minimize the impact of the transition.
How library's move could impact you:
* Customers who designate the Central Library as their preferred pickup location for materials placed on hold will be asked to collect those items from the branch library of their choice.
* Interlibrary loan services will be suspended for all library locations beginning Friday, April 27. Borrowing of materials from other libraries will resume when the Advanced Learning Library opens.
* Book drop service at the Central Library will be suspended as of May 6. Materials may be returned to branch libraries or to the after hours materials return at the Advanced Learning Library beginning on May 7.
The city says "in the near future," it will announce plans for the grand opening of the Advanced Learning Library.
