Meddys holds weekend fundraiser for injured local musician, mother and niece killed in crash
Many in the community are rallying for local musician Jenny Wood as she recovers from a tragic car accident in downtown Wichita that killed her mother and niece.
Wood is a popular singer, songwriter and guitarist, that told Eyewitness News back in 2011 that she uses her platform to empower children.
"I'm starting to build all my songs around, just making these power songs for kids," Wood said.
Those in the community who know Wood says she is connected with the community through her music. Now, many are supporting her after she was injured in a crash Sunday (May 5).
"Everyone totally respects her. She's always around town and doing good things here. She loves this place, and we love her right back," said Crystal Peterson.
This weekend, Meddys Restaurants promised to donate 20 percent of their proceeds to the
created to help with the medical and funeral expenses of the those involved in the crash.
"It's amazing what Meddys is doing, for everything that's going on with Jenny and the McElroy family, so it's pretty tragic what happened," said Alex Schneider. "I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, but that family and Jenny. It's pretty heartbreaking."
Meddys manager Joe Venegas says the company felt they had to do something to help those affected by the crash.
"We're just a locally owned company, and when our community is definitely in need, we just want to do what we can to help out. Whatever little bit we can do to help," Venegas said.
He says another way to help out is by purchasing a special T-shirt bearing the Wichita flag and a #violencefreeict hashtag. The shirts can be bought at any Meddys location for only $10 and all proceeds will go to Wood and her family.
