Military combat veteran surprised with new car

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Christmas came early for a combat wounded veteran.

Chevrolet and the GallantFew honored former Staff Sergeant Ronald LaPoint at the Wichita State Shockers basketball game Saturday night.

LaPoint, who is a Wichita native, was recognized as Chevrolet's “Everyday Hero” for his service and sacrifice to our country.

During the game, LaPoint and his family were presented with the keys to a brand-new Chevrolet Equinox.

“It is important for us as local dealers to be active contributors in our local communities,” said Sean Tarbell, president of the Hometown Chevy Dealers. “Through great partners like the GallantFew and local Chevy dealerships around the country, we can honor brave heroes, tell their stories and promote the Foundation so it can continue to help veterans in need.”

LaPoint has been awarded several medals for his bravery and service to our country, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Achievement Medal.
