Moran: A Pompeo run for US Senate would change Kansas race

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Kansas Senator Jerry Moran was in Wichita Thursday as part of a tour with the acting Secretary of the Army.

The two walked through the NIAR campus and visited with students.

The goal was to show that Kansas can meet any needs of the defense department.

While in town, we asked Sen. Jerry Moran about the current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Pompeo has said in the past that he's not running for Pat Roberts' Senate seat next year.

Still, the rumors continue about Pompeo.

Moran says he has had conversations with Secretary Pompeo.

He doesn't know what decision he's going to make or how soon he could make one.

"The secretary may decide that he may be interested in serving in the U.S. Senate and I think he would be a solid candidate," said Moran. "Kansans, at the moment, have a lot of choices but that could change should the secretary decide to enter it (the race)."

Secretary Pompeo will be in Manhattan, Kansas Friday, speaking at Kansas State University's Landon Lecture series.

Eyewitness News Anchor Melissa Scheffler will be there to share with you what the secretary has to say.
