Mulvane restaurant organizes fundraiser for LGBTQ-friendly church
After vandals targeted a LGBTQ-friendly church near downtown Wichita, breaking windows, a Mulvane restaurant steps up to show its support and help pay for repairs.
Kayla Lawrence, owner of Tiny's Bar and Grill in Mulvane, learned about what happened to the Table of Hope Metropolitan Community Church one day on Facebook. She wanted to do something to help.
This week, her restaurant is hosting a benefit barbecue for Table of Hope with all of the proceeds going to the church.
"They do a lot of things. They feed more than 1,000 people in their food pantry, they do a lot of things in the community, and I think it's time we give back to them," Lawrence says.
"For this bar to reach out to us to help with a need, I think it speaks volumes to there willingness to be a part of the community, not just a business," says Jackie Carter, pastor at Table of Hope.
The benefit will be this Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Tiny's Bar and Grill at 108 W. Main Street in Mulvane.
They hope to raise enough money to help Table of Hope put protective covers over its windows.
