Wichita musician injured, mother and niece killed in crash involving stolen SUV
Friends call Jenny Wood a gifted songwriter, singer and musician. She's recovering in the hospital. She was involved in a crash on Douglas and Broadway Sunday.
Michael Peltzer has played guitar with Wood for years. He says family and close friends have seen an outpouring of support for Wood and her family.
"She's in critical, but stable condition, and she's a fighter. She will be able to get through this," said Peltzer.
He says she's an amazing woman who loves kids. She is also involved in an anti-bullying campaign at schools around Wichita.
Her mom, Marie Wood, and her 12-year-old niece, Rosie McElroy were also in the car Sunday, they didn't survive.
Now Rosie's classmates and teachers are dealing with the loss of a special student.
"She is just a bright light, so optimistic, and didn't have a mean bone in her body," said Robinson Middle School teacher Brooke Adams.
Jenny and Rosie shared a passion for music.
"Spread the joy, find the light, find the happiness, and reflect her memory and the good she did," said Adams.
Grief counselors are available for students who want to talk about their classmate's death. Students also wore yellow Monday in honor of her.
Friends say what they need now...are prayers.
