NEWTON, Kan. (KWCH) Newton Police officers are posing with bags full of school supplies that will be given to families in need.

Members of the Newton Police Department participated in a city wide effort to fill backpacks with school supplies for kids whose families might not be able to afford them otherwise.

"We had so much fun doing back to school shopping, it almost made us want to go back to kindergarten," said Cpl. Mowery.

The department posted about the effort on their official Facebook page.

The Newton Police Department says they believe their service goes beyond responding to 911 calls.
