Heavily-armed man charged for causing 'chaotic' scene at Springfield, Mo. Walmart

Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man with making a terrorist threat in the second degree by causing a panic at a Walmart store in Springfield, Missouri.

Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson said in a news release Friday that Missouri protects the right to carry a firearm, but that right does not allow an individual to act in a reckless and criminal manner endangering other citizens.

A probable cause statement released Friday says Dmitriy Andreychenko recorded himself as he walked in the store carrying an "AR style rifle" slung across his chest and wearing a ballistic vest. He also had a handgun on his right hip.

The affidavit says he said he was recording himself in case somebody was going to tell him to leave. He said he wanted to know if Walmart honored the Second Amendment.

The Springfield, Mo. Police Department Friday identifies the man arrested Thursday bringing a loaded rifle into a Walmart Neighborhood Market store,

reports officers booked 20-year-old Dmitriy N. Andreychenko into jail on suspicion of first-degree making a terrorist threat.

Springfield police said Thursday Andreychenko had loaded weapons and more than 100 rounds of ammunition. They say he also wore body armor.

KY3 reports as of Friday afternoon, the Greene County, Mo. prosecutor hasn't filed formal charges in the case.

The Springfield, Mo. Police Department says nobody was injured and officers arrested a man following response to an active-shooter call at a Walmart Neighborhood Market in the southwest Missouri city.

reports the Springfield PD arrived on the scene within three minutes of the call. Police tell KY3 a man appearing to be in his 20s, pulled up to the store donning body armor.

"Police say the man had tactical weapons," KY3 reports.

Police say the man walked into the store, grabbed a cart and began pushing it around the store. They say he used his cellphone to record himself walking through the store.

KY3 reports the store's manager pulled a fire alarm, urging people to escape.

Police say the man then made his way out an emergency exit where an off-duty firefighter held the man at gunpoint. At that moment Springfield Police arrived on scene and detained the man," KY3 reports.

Springfield police say the man had loaded weapons and more than 100 rounds of ammunition. Police identified the man's vehicle and investigated the possibility of more firearms inside that vehicle, the station reports.

Springfield Police Lt. Mike Lucas tells KY3 the man intended to cause chaos.

"His intent was not to cause peace or comfort. ...He's lucky he's alive still, to be honest," Lucas tells KY3.
