Authorities believe hotel fire intentionally set

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) 6:20 p.m.

Authorities say a fire that damaged a south Wichita hotel was intentionally set and they have identified a suspect.

Firefighters were called to the Best Western in the 4700 block of south Emporia around 7:30 a.m. after a fire alarm went off in the building.

Crews determined there was a fire but the sprinkler system mostly took care of it.

One person was taken to the hospital after they jumped out of a window to escape the fire. No word yet on the person's condition.

The fire caused about $120,000 in damages.

The investigation will be turned over to the Sedgwick County District Attorney to pursue aggravated arson charges.

Investigators are still trying to determine a cause.
One person is in serious condition after an early-morning fire at a South Wichita hotel.

That fire broke out shortly before 8:00 a.m. at the Best Western in the 4700 block of south Emporia.

The person who was hurt reportedly jumped from the window of the burning room.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
