The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified a woman killed Monday morning near Cheney as 30-year-old Mendi Kathleen Cotter, of Wichita.

10:05 a.m.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is on the scene of a two-vehicle crash that left a 30-year-old woman dead.

It happened on Westbound US-54 at 343rd Street.

KHP is also working a crash in the Eastbound lanes in the same area.

In that case, a passenger was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

They believe these crashes, along with at least one other, are the result of dense fog in the area at the time.

The highway on both sides are closed indefinitely.

Original Story:

One person was killed, several others hurt in early morning crashes on far-west Kellogg between Garden Plain and Cheney.

Officials are asking drivers to avoid US-54 between 295th Street West and 383rd Street West as crews work to deal with the crashes.

Drivers are also asked to slow down in the fog, which is dense in this area.
