Tiger attacks employee at Topeka Zoo


A representative from the Topeka Zoo says a male tiger injured a female keeper Saturday morning.

The zoo says the keeper was alert while she was taken to the hospital.

"We're still evaluating. The tiger is holding," the representative says.

The zoo was open when the attack happened, and witnesses immediately reported it to zoo authorities.

The zoo closed for about 45 minutes while it handled the situation.

The Topeka Zoo is reopened for normal business hours, however, the tigers are not on display Saturday.
Topeka Police are responding to the Topeka Zoo Saturday morning after reports of one person being attacked by a tiger.

Shawnee County Dispatch was called just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning after reports of a tiger attack.

Authorities say the individual, whose name has not been released, is a trainer at the zoo and is in critical condition.

No other details have been confirmed at this time, but authorities are on scene.
