A bouquet of flowers lies at the crash site where three people died Wednesday morning.

Ashley Owen, who started a petition says she thinks the deaths from the crash were preventable.

"I think we all know someone or someone's family that's been hit going across K-254," Cheyanne Taylor said.

The petition calls for improvements to K-254. It already has more than 1,000 signatures, and Taylor says the petition is a start in the right direction.

"I think it will make a difference, even if it's one life, even if it's one person that paid attention to the extra warning or light that would matter," Cheyanne Taylor said.

Johnaa Raymond has been living near K-254 for nearly 30 years and says even with the signatures it's not guaranteed anything will change

"That's the other side of it, yea know people can wish all they want to but the money has to come from somewhere," Raymond said.

Taylor says no matter where you stand on the petition, something has to be done to save lives

The president of the K-254 Corridor Development Association says his group hopes to add to those signatures along with a plan to take to lawmakers sometime this year.
