LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. An emergency landing on a busy stretch of Kansas City-area highway creates a hectic scene and heavy emergency response. The good news: The Missouri Highway Patrol reports no injuries after the twin-engine Bonanza landed a little before 2 p.m. Tuesday on a section of eastbound I-470 in Lee's Summit, Mo.
Kansas City station KCTV 5 reports the pilot was the plane's only occupant.
KCTV 5 reports the pilot was attempting to land at the Lee's Summit airport when one of the plane's engines failed. No passing cars were damaged, but one of the plane's wings did clip a highway sign, causing minor damage.
“It absolutely worked out. It was just short of a miracle,” a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol told KCTV 5.
