DNA evidence confirms the remains of a small child found Sept. 2 within a concrete structure in a south Wichita home are those of 3-year-old Evan Brewer.

Sunday at a vigil for Evan, his family told Eyewitness News police confirmed to them the remains were those of the 3-year-old boy.

Monday, citing the DNA evidence, police made that confirmation public.

At about 10:30 a.m. Sept. 2, Wichita police say officers discovered the remains inside a home in the 200 block of South Vine.

'The property owner was cleaning out his rental property and alerted police to a suspicious concrete structure that was emitting an odor," police say.

Officers removed the concrete structure from the house and later found the remains, police say.

"The case remains an ongoing investigation," police say.

Wichita police have yet to present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.
