WINFIELD, Kan. (KWCH) Winfield police are investigating after receiving reports of scammers posing as a school official.

Police say scammers are calling and claiming to be with the Winfield High School athletics department to solicit an ad spot to businesses. When asked for a name, the caller promptly disconnects the phone call.

"We contacted the Winfield High School's athletic director, and he tells us these calls are not originating from the school district nor are they from the Viking Boosters," said police.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with "Winfield High School Sports Media" asking for a donation or requesting you purchase advertising space, police recommend hanging up.
