Police arrest 18-year-old woman for murder in SE Wichita deadly shooting
The Wichita Police Department arrests an 18-year-old woman for murder in connection with the Wednesday evening deadly shooting in southeast Wichita.
Police say officers arrested 18-year-old Rina Nguyen, of Wichita, on charges of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm in the death of her boyfriend, 22-year-old Amare Holt.
At about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a shooting at a home in the 1500 block of South Battin. When they arrived, officers found Holt with multiple gunshot wounds. He died from his injuries at a local hospital.
Police say Nguyen, Holt and a 17-year-old girl were at Nguyen's home on Battin and while there, an argument began between Nguyen and Holt.
"During the argument, Nguyen pulled out a handgun and fired at Holt as he was walking out the front door, striking him multiple times," police say. "One of the shots also struck a nearby occupied home. No one at the home was injured."
After the shooting, police say Nguyen fled the home in a vehicle, but returned a short time later and "was arrested without further incident."
Police say this was not a random incident ans Nguyen and Holt knew each other.
Wichita police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon.
Officers responded to the shooting call in the 1500 block of South Battin around 5:40 p.m.
Officers arrived to find a man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, who had been shot and was unresponsive.
The man was taken to the hospital where he died.
Wichita police say the scene remains "very active" and interviews are still being conducted.
