Man found dead in Lake Afton identified
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has identified a man whose body was found in Lake After on Saturday as 29-year-old Zachariah Shepherd.
The sheriff's office said deputies were dispatched to the lake around 1 p.m. for a possible drowning. They arrived and learned Shepherd tried to swim across the lake and was last seen around 2:00 a.m.
The Sedgwick County Fire Department and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks searched the lake for Shepherd but were unsuccessful.
Search crews found Shepherd's body around on Sunday around 1:20 p.m., Shepherd was recovered from the lake.
The sheriff's office said although the death of Shepherd is still under investigation, at this time it does not to be suspicious.
Sedgwick County officials have confirmed a body was found in Lake Afton after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Officials are still working to identify the body. Saturday, crews were out searching for a swimmer who went missing in the early morning hours.
A person is missing at Lake Afton after they went swimming early Saturday morning.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office said a 29-year-old white male went swimming last night around 2 a.m. and hasn't been seen since.
The fire department has been called in to assist and investigators are treating this as a missing person case.
