2 killed in industrial accident at Oxy Chem in SW Wichita

UPDATE - 9 p.m. OxyChem released the following statement in response to Thursday's fatal industrial accident after Eyewitness News reached out to the company for further information on what happened:

"Regrettably, two contractors lost their lives after an incident involving a failure of the contractor's equipment. Our thoughts go out to the workers' families and colleagues... The incident did not involve any chemical release and an investigation is underway."


UPDATE - 1:20 pm: Two contractors were killed in an accident involving a boom truck in the back of the OxyChem plant. Lt. Lin Dehning with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says the equipment, which is owned by the contractor, failed.

Their identities are not being released at this time.


UPDATE: 911 dispatchers confirm two people have died following an industrial accident at OxyChem, 6200 S. Ridge.

Emergency crews are headed to Occidental Chemical Corporation, also known as Oxy Chem, for an industrial accident.

The business is located in the 6200 block of South Ridge.
