Possible grenade removed from car at SE Wichita auto shop

WICHITA, Kan. An unusual find at a southeast Wichita body shop Wednesday afternoon clears the business and brings on a precautionary call to the bomb squad.

Police say an employee at an auto shop in the 3400 block of East Harry (near Harry and Hillside) was detailing a vehicle when that employee found what appeared to be a possible live grenade.

Responding officers inspected and took preventative measures with a call to the bomb squad, on scene to inspect the possible explosive before rendering it safe. This process involves putting the possible grenade in a "containment vessel" and transporting it to the bomb range.

Police say officers did not have to evacuate other businesses surrounding the auto shop.
