BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. Recent flooding could have an impact on Memorial Day Weekend plans with local lake levels well above their normal stages.
Camping options could be limited at El Dorado and Cheney Lakes, which are well into their flood pools. Tuesday, Eyewitness News learned the Army Corps of Engineers may be forced to hold the water in Kansas lakes until Oklahoma rivers and lakes downstream have a chance to recede.
Even if work to lower water levels in the local lakes does happen before the holiday, the corps of engineers says it will take time to clean up all the debris and check electrical hookups before campgrounds can open.
Eyewitness News surveyed the situation at El Dorado Lake Tuesday where campgrounds are flooded and boat ramps unusable.
