RUSSELL, Kan. (KWCH) Seventeen-year-old Kalli Pfeifer was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was two years old. She's also a part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, an organization that's all about Type 1 diabetes.
This week, Kalli was among 160 other youth from across the country who traveled to Washington D.C. to lobby for diabetes research funding.
She met several lawmakers during her time in the nation's capital and even attended a Senate hearing.
Kalli says she wants lawmakers and others to know that the Special Diabetes Program was renewed on February 9, 2018, and will expire on September 30, 2019. She spoke out on the extreme price of insulin.
"Me and my new diabetic friends, we all are just incredibly passionate and we all want to find a cure. We are fighting not only for ourselves but for everyone, especially for the little ones and newly diagnosed," said Kalli.
She says going to Washington has made her even more passionate about advocating and educating others about type one Diabetes.
