Heights High School student arrested for aggravated battery of officer

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A school resource officer was taken to the hospital after an incident at Heights High School Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a 17-year-old student who had been suspended and came back onto the property. When the SRO told her she needed to leave, police say the girl battered the officer enough that he had to go to the hospital.

Police say the girl used her nails to severely cut the officer. He had to be taken to the hospital but was treated and released.

The teen was arrested for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. Police say she is connected with three other cases.

A spokesperson for Wichita Public Schools says, "When the SRO met the student and asked the student to leave, the student became physically aggressive and the SRO called for backup which brought several officers which made the situation look worse than it was."
