Scammers take advantage of generosity, pretend to raise funds for police organizations
The Kansas Peace Officers Association (KPOA) warns Kansans about a scam involving a call to solicit donations for the KPOA and the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP).
"At this time, neither the KACP or the KPOA are conducting any type of fundraising campaigns by phone," The KPOA says. "Fundraising scams like these are becoming increasingly more common and law enforcement associations are not immune."
The KPOA says it's unfortunate to see criminals taking advantage of Kansans' generosity in supporting law enforcement. The KACP and KPOA advise anyone who receives a call soliciting donations for either group to decline the option to donate and hang up.
"Citizens wishing to donate to either organization should contact the associations directly or visit their respective websites," the KPOA says.
