Update Tuesday, March 31, 2020

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says deputies made an arrest in connection with the death of 26-year-old Zackary Tilson, found dead early Friday morning near 85th North Street North and Hoover, near Valley Center.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter says booking charges against 37-year-old Jeremy Tifton Shuflat include first-degree murder in Tilson's death. Shuflat was arrested on Saturday for warrants. Information gathered in the homicide investigation led to the murder charge against Shuflat. That charge was added Tuesday (March 31), Easter says.

Easter says a little after 6 a.m. Friday (March 27), deputies responded to the area of 85th North and Hoover to check an abandoned vehicle on a bridge. The vehicle was locked.

Deputies found a man (Tilson) lying on rocks below the bridge. Easter says EMS pronounced Tilson dead at the scene. The 26-year-old had been stabbed, the sheriff says.

Easter says this was not a random crime and while no other arrests are expected, the investigation into Tilson's death is ongoing. The sheriff's office will present its case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office that will determine formal charges against Shuflat.
