Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office warns of 'missed jury duty scam'

WICHITA, Kan. If you get a call claiming to come from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office with a warning about a warrant for missing jury duty, the best thing you can do is hang up immediately.

The sheriff's office warns this is a scam in which scammers call from a Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office "ghosted" phone number. On the call, the scammers tell their target they've missed jury duty and because of this have a warrant out for their arrest.

People targeted in this call are then asked for green dot cards over the phone as payment for the warrants and are instructed to mail them to a fake Wichita address.

"The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office does not ask for payment of any fines or warrants over the phone," the sheriff's office says. "We will never ask for your debit card, credit card, or any other banking information over the phone either. If you feel that something is not right, you can always call 911 to verify the information."
