Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and progressive Democratic Congressional nominee Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) spoke in Wichita on Friday.

The two appeared at a campaign rally for Kansas Democrat James Thompson.

Thompson is running against fellow Democrat Laura Lombard for the Democratic nomination for the state's 4th Congressional District. Voters will head to the polls Aug. 7 to determine which candidate will head to the November general election.

The 4th Congressional seat is currently held by Rep. Ron Estes. Estes also faces a challenger in the Aug. 7 Republican Primary. The Congressman's Primary opponent is Ron M. Estes.

Sanders' planned visit to Wichita won't be the first time a big name has come to Kansas to support a political candidate.

Vice President Mike Pence endorsed Rep. Kevin Yoder in Kansas City. Yoder is running for the state's 3rd Congressional District.

Donald Trump Jr. was in Wichita on Wednesday throwing his support Secretary of State Kris Kobach for Kansas governor.
