Severe storms possible on Thursday

Meteorologist Jake Dunne says it’s a breezy and warm Wednesday morning, but that will soon change into a hot and windy afternoon. South winds will increase to 20-30 mph this afternoon with gusts better than 40 mph. Mostly sunny skies will allow for temperatures to climb into the lower 90s across most of Kansas.

If you’re heading to the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, expect midday temperatures in the middle 80s to climb into the low 90s by late afternoon under mainly sunny skies.

A cold front will start moving across western Kansas tonight before marching east toward Missouri tomorrow. A few showers and storms are possible tonight across west Kansas, but the best bet for storms, possibly severe, will occur across eastern Kansas during the afternoon and evening on Thursday.

In the wake of the storms, we’ll see and brief taste of fall on Friday with highs in the 70s and 80s. More importantly, we will also see a drop in humidity. A warmer and stronger south wind returns on Saturday as do highs in the 80s and 90s
