Snow last night, bitter cold today

A bitter cold start to Christmas Eve with a Wind Chill Advisory in place across NW-Kansas until 10 A.M. Fresh snow on the ground across the northern parts of the state. Snowfall amounts overnight, ranged from a trace in Wichita (flurries) to as much as 1-3" from Emporia northward ( mainly north of I-70) across northern Kansas. Expect wind chills of 15-24 degrees below zero in NW-Kansas.

Clouds will break early this morning and sunshine will dominate our Christmas Eve, however temperatures will struggle to reach the freezing mark. Highs will only reach the 20s and low 30s this afternoon. Clouds will increasing again tonight, however no snow in the forecast for Santa. Overnight lows will drop into the single digits and teens. Christmas morning will be frigid, with snow still on the ground in parts of northern Kansas. Under partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will range from the upper 20s to the mid 40s with the warmest readings in southwest Kansas.

A strong cold front will move through Kansas during the afternoon bringing much colder weather to the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will only reach the 20s both days.

A few flurries are possible on Thursday. Highs in the 30s for Thursday and Friday, turning colder next weekend with a chance for a wintry mix.
