Independence Community College head football coach Jason Brown resigns from his position after the release of a controversial text exchange with a player.

Brown posted his resignation letter on Twitter Sunday night, thanking his staff, players and community members for supporting the team. He said recent media reports have diminished his ability to do his job.

Last week,

shared a screenshot of a text message showing Brown telling a German-born player in part, "I'm your new Hitler."

The Independence Community College Board of Trustees will not take any action for now against the school's head football coach Jason Brown after a player unveiled a series of controversial text messages.

Brown and the Independence Pirates were featured in season 3 of "

" on Netflix.

According to the

, the board met in executive session Thursday night to discuss Brown's future after a text message exchange was revealed between him and a German player.

In the exchange, Brown referred to the player using a curse word and told him, "I'm your new Hitler."

The college is conducting an investigation.

In a statement to KOAM/Fox14 News, ICC President Dr. Daniel Barwick: "Independence Community College does not condone the language Coach Brown used in his message. I have spoken with Coach Brown about his message to the student, and he fully understands that his language was not appropriate. The college is investigating the matter and will have no further statement at this time."
