Strong wind topples stegosaurus at Derby dinosaur park

DERBY, Kan. A 3,000 pound stegosaurus at Derby's Field Station: Dinosaurs was no match for a powerful south-central Kansas wind gusting to about 60 mph Wednesday afternoon.

The dinosaur park's manager says the facility bringing prehistoric creatures to life has some dinosaurs that weigh up to 10 tons, or 20,000 pounds.

"This dinosaur blew over because it has those fins on the back and the wind caught it," Field Station: Dinosaurs manager Lon Smith says. "Now that it's on its side, we will turn it and point it into the wins, so it probably wouldn't happen again."

Smith says no one was injured, and while the wind can always be a concern for an outdoor adventure park, his team isn't worried about more dinosaurs falling over.
