Student arrested for bringing gun to Wichita North High School

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Wichita police arrested a 16-year-old North High School student for bringing a gun to school on Thursday.

Police say school security received an anonymous tip about the student having a handgun and followed up, which led to the arrest.

In an email sent to parents, Principal Lori Doyle said the situation was an isolated incident. No threats were made, classes were not disrupted and no one was hurt.

Doyle said safety protocols were followed to ensure the safety of students and staff.

"Parents, please discuss with your child the far-reaching and serious consequences of bringing inappropriate items to school," said Doyle.

She advised that students are always encouraged to "see something, say something."
