A 35-year-old man has been arrested in the beating and killing of a man in northeast Wichita.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. Wednesday (August 21), for a report of a disturbance in the parking lot of a business in the 2200 block of north Rock Road.

When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Haley Collins of Bel Aire unconscious with critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but died of his injuries Thursday.

Police say an argument broke out between the victim and his acquaintance Steven Speakman.

Investigators say Speakman allegedly physically battered Collins causing life-threatening injuries. He was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.

The case is on-going and will be presented to the Sedgwick county Districts Attorney's Office.
