The Beach Boys' Mike Love visits mother's home in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) The Beach Boys are in town for the Kansas State Fair but for some of the band members there is another reason for stopping in Hutchinson.

Mike Love, the co-founder of the band has history in the small town.

Before moving to California, his mother was born in Hutchinson at a home on 6th Avenue.

Now almost 100 years later, Love gets to see the home where his grandparents lived and his mother, Emily Glee Wilson was born.

"Its great to look back and see where you came from and when you see the hard work and things that gave rise to our opportunities when they moved to California then the sky was the limit."

Love grew up in a musical household, his mother's side passing the passion down. His brother, Murray Wilson had three sons and they began singing with Love at a young age at family get-togethers.

The music took off from there.

"So my cousin Brian and I, whose father was born in Hutchinson, we wrote some great song together and played around the world in several different places."

Over the years the houses have changed but Love says he still has a soft spot in his heart for Kansas.

"I just remember how hard my ancestors worked and you know we have done 185 shows last year and 150 this year. Some people say that is really hard what you do and i say oh no what my grandparents and parents did was really tough."

Love says he doesn't want to forget his roots because from those roots grew something he never imagined.

"I am 100 percent grateful for the opportunities we have been given and success we have had, I never lose sight of where we came from."
