Topeka police officer injured in accident

A Topeka police officer was injured in an accident early Sunday morning that killed the driver of the other car.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, the officer was traveling westbound on SW 12th St. in Topeka on patrol. She was not responding to a call or driving in an emergency status, the crash log states.
A Hyundai traveling southbound on Webster St. did not have its headlights on. The crash log states the Hyundai failed to yield at a stop sign and struck the front passenger side of the officer's vehicle car at the intersection of 12th St. and Webster St.
According to the crash log, Tourquoise Moniece Abercrombie was the driver of the Hyundai. She died in the crash. The crash log states she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The crash log identifies the officer as Laura M. Mayer. She was taken to Stormont Vail Health hospital in Topeka with injuries.
