WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A Valley Center man accused of child sex crimes hears the charges against him in a Sedgwick County courtroom.
Prosecutors say Stephen Walters sexually assaulted a child in Valley Center on July 5, then ran from the scene leaving the police to search for him in a nearby cornfield.
Walters is a registered violent offender. In 2014, he was accused of sex crimes against five young girls ranging from three to eight years old.
Court records show he was charged on several counts in 2015 including rape, but those were all changed to aggravated battery and criminal restraint.
He was released from prison in 2017.
His bond has been set at $500,000. He is expected back in court later at the end of July.
