Vandals target Starlite Drive-In
The Starlite Drive-In was the target of vandalism over the weekend. Owner Blake Smith says there's not much mystery into what happened as it was all caught on camera. He says the vandals spotted the camera and stomped on it, but not before the crime was recorded.
Cameras caught two boys looking through a door and then making their way to the side of the concession stand where they threw a brick through a window. Smith says what he would like to see happen, depends on the boys' next move.
"I guess it would depend on how they came to us," Smith says. "If they would, maybe we could work something out. Maybe they could work it off, pay for it. That wouldn't be the worst thing."
Eyewitness News is blurring out the vandals' faces in the photos because they appear to be minors. But Smith says if anyone recognizes them, he just wants them to make things right.
"But kids will be kids. It's part of business, I get it," he says. "That's the bad side of it is that people don't sometimes associate that good people are out there working and not making a fortune, and then somebody does something stupid like this and it's just kind of senseless."
The drive-in boarded up the damaged door and will be open tonight (Monday).
Smith doesn't know the cost of the repairs, but says it could easily cost more to fix than the theater made on the day it happened.
