Video shows kids in car seats riding in back of truck

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The Kansas Highway Patrol always seeks to educate people about the rules of the road.

That's exactly what happened when a viral video which appears to have been taken along Kellogg in Wichita was shared with Trooper Ben Gardner.

The video, originally uploaded to SnapChat, was shared on Twitter by Dimitri @yungiccyd. It shows a truck driving down the highway with two children in car seats, strapped in the back.

"Wichita what's wrong with your people?" Dimitri asks. The caption on the video questions whether what's being done is legal.

Once the video was shared with Trooper Ben, he responded with state statute 8-1578a. "Riding on vehicle prohibited, when; exceptions."

"#KansasLaw states it is illegal for people under the age of 14 to ride in truck beds, unless they are participating in a parade or using the truck bed for employment purposes," said Gardner in his tweet.

Eyewitness News has reached out to Dimitri to learn more about the vehicle, the driver and the children.
