KINGMAN, Kan. On the second Thursday of each month, Colleen Strong and about 25 volunteers in Kingman prepare and deliver meals to people who need them.
"We're this big group, and everybody has their little job," Strong says. "And we work together. That's the good part."
Strong started the group, Share the Love seven years ago, bringing home-cooked meals to seniors, people recently released from the hospital, or just anyone who needs some love.
This month, the group prepared and delivered 89 meals to people in the community. Cooking for that many people can be pricey. Strong says the group busy some food with donated money, but the rest is out of their own pockets.
"At Christmastime especially, we run really tight on funds," Strong says. "But everyone just pitches in a little bit more and it works out."
For her, it's a small price to pay for the difference the effort makes.
