WPD investigates report of shot fired in attempted store robbery
Wichita police are investigating a report of shots fired during an attempted robbery Monday night at the Burlington Coat Factory store in the 600 block of S. Dugan (near I-235 and Kellogg) in west Wichita.
Police say no one was injured in the incident reported about 9:15 p.m. They say witnesses told them a man armed with a handgun came into the store and demanded money. Police say witnesses told them the man got upset because a cashier wasn't reacting fast enough and fired one shot in the air before running from the scene.
Police say the investigation includes checking surveillance video. Witnesses describe the suspect as a man of average height, wearing a brown coat, black pants, white gloves, white shoes, and a black mask covering his nose and mouth. Witnesses say the mask included a jaw bone design.
They say the man left eastbound on Taft in a black four-door Toyota with tinted windows and an after-market smoked taillight cover.
Anyone with information on the robbery should call 911.
